Diploma in Artificial Intelligence for Telecommunications

DESCRIPTION
The Diploma in AI for Telecommunications trains professionals to apply artificial intelligence to manage, automate, and optimize telecommunications networks and services. With an applied approach, the program develops skills to address the challenges of an industry moving toward increasingly intelligent, data-driven operations. Backed by the expertise of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Chile, it offers specialized training to design and implement artificial intelligence-based solutions, integrating data analytics, operations automation, and intelligent management of telecommunications networks.

FACULTY

Patricio Valenzuela: Adjunct Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Chile. Civil Electrical Engineer and holds an MBA from the University of Chile. Over 25 years of experience in telecommunications, including executive positions at Nokia, Huawei, and Claro Chile, and advisory roles for public agencies such as Subtel and the Ministry of Public Works (MOP).

Jorge Sandoval: Adjunct Instructor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Chile. PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Chile. Researcher specializing in next-generation wireless networks (5G/6G) and reinforcement learning, with teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels and professional experience in network planning at Entel.

Alberto Castro: Adjunct Instructor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Chile. Master’s degree in Statistics (PUC) and Master’s degree in Communication Networks Engineering (University of Chile). Specialist in agentic AI and multi-agent systems applied to telecommunications, with experience at SQM Industrial and consulting in statistical modeling for companies and public institutions in Chile, Colombia, and Peru.

METHODOLOGY
100% online format with live classes via Zoom. Sessions combine lectures with hands-on labs and analysis of real cases from the telecommunications sector.
Participants work progressively with AI tools, virtualization, and network automation throughout the program.
Course materials are available on U-cursos as a supporting repository.

CURRICULUM

The diploma program is organized into 6 sequential courses, each worth 1 SCT credit and totaling 27 hours of dedicated work. The progression advances from industry fundamentals toward enabling technologies and, finally, advanced AI applications.

  • Module 1: Regulation and Governance in ICT
    • National and international regulatory ecosystem, ISO, ITU, and NIST standards.
    • General Telecommunications Law, cybersecurity, and tariff regulation models.
  • Module 2: Smart Connectivity: IoT in ICT Technologies
    • Internet of Things architectures and applications, connectivity technologies (LoRaWAN, NB-IoT, 4G/5G).
    • Cloud platforms and security aspects in large-scale IoT solutions.
  • Module 3: Programmable Networks and Network Virtualization (SDN/NFV)
    • Software-defined networks, network function virtualization, containers, and hypervisors.
    • Operator use cases: traffic engineering, segmentation, and automation.
  • Module 4: Artificial Intelligence Applied to Telecommunications
    • Agentic AI and multi-agent systems, orchestration architectures.
    • Applications in 5G-Advanced and 6G networks, implementation with Ray/RLlib and LangGraph frameworks.
  • Module 5: Autonomous and Multi-Agent Systems for Telecommunications Networks
    • Data management and analytics techniques, customer segmentation, predictive maintenance.
    • Network optimization and intelligent operations (AIOps).
  • Module 6: AIOps and Network Automation Laboratory
    • Anomaly detection, automatic event correlation, and AI-assisted root cause analysis.
    • Integration with ITIL operational frameworks and network operations centers (NOC).
